Botox for Men: Natural Results and How Dosing Differs
How Botox for men differs: stronger muscles and more units, a flatter brow, the most popular areas, keeping results natural and masculine, side effects and typical costs in Carlsbad.
If you only read one thing
Botox works the same way for men, but men usually have stronger facial muscles and need more units for the same area, and the injection pattern should keep the brow low and flat rather than arched. The most popular areas for men are frown lines, forehead lines, crow's feet, the jaw muscle for clenching and the underarms for sweating. Results last about three to four months.
- US men had 593,854 neuromodulator treatments in 2024, about 6% of the total.
- Men often need more units than women; in one study 40 to 80 units worked better than 20 for male frown lines.
- A natural male result keeps the brow low and flat and keeps some movement.
- Popular areas: frown lines, forehead, crow's feet, jaw clenching and underarm sweating.
- Results start in 3 to 7 days, peak at 2 weeks and last about 3 to 4 months.
- Botox is $14 per unit at Glow Theory.

Botox is no longer something men keep quiet about. In 2024, men had almost 600,000 neuromodulator treatments in the US, about 6% of the total, and the number keeps rising. Most men come in for the same reasons women do: frown lines that make them look tired or annoyed, forehead lines and crow’s feet. But a good result for a man looks different, and men usually need more units to get it.
This guide explains how Botox for men differs, typical units and costs, the areas men most often treat, how to keep the result natural and masculine, and what to expect.
Why Botox for men is different
- Stronger musclesMen’s frown and forehead muscles are usually larger and stronger, so they often need more units to relax them. In a study of men with frown lines, doses of 40 to 80 units worked consistently better than 20 units.
- Different brow shapeA male brow is usually lower, flatter and straighter. Botox placed for a lifted, arched female brow can make a man’s brow look feminine or surprised, so the injection pattern is different.
- Different goalsMost men want to look rested and less stern, not wrinkle-free. Keeping some natural movement is usually part of the plan.
- Thicker skinDeeper, set-in lines may soften gradually over a few treatments rather than all at once.
Most popular Botox areas for men
| Area | What it does | Typical units for men |
|---|---|---|
| Frown lines (11s) | Softens the angry or tired look between the brows | Usually the higher end of 15 to 30, sometimes more |
| Forehead lines | Smooths horizontal lines while keeping the brow low and natural | Usually the higher end of 12 to 30 |
| Crow’s feet | Softens lines at the outer eyes when smiling | Usually the higher end of 16 to 30 |
| Jaw (masseter) | Relieves clenching and grinding, and slims a bulky jaw | 30 to 50 |
| Underarms | Reduces excessive sweating | 100 to 200 |
Your own number depends on your muscle strength and how much movement you want to keep. We tell you your units and price before we begin. For a full list of areas and units, see our Botox units guide.
How to keep Botox looking natural on a man
The most common worries we hear from men are looking “frozen”, looking surprised, or looking feminine. All three come from technique, not from Botox itself:
- Keep the brow flat. A skilled injector avoids lifting the outer brow into an arch, which reads as feminine on most men.
- Treat the frown and forehead together. Treating only the forehead can let the brow drop and feel heavy; balancing the muscles keeps it in place.
- Keep some movement. A little expression in the forehead looks natural and still softens lines.
- Dose for your muscles. Too little Botox in strong muscles wears off in weeks, which is why men often need more units than they expect.
Beyond wrinkles: jaw clenching and sweating
Many men first try Botox for something other than lines. Masseter Botox relaxes the jaw muscle, easing clenching and grinding and slimming a jaw that has become bulky from it; see our masseter Botox guide. Underarm Botox is FDA-approved for severe sweating and keeps you drier for months; see Botox for sweating.
What to expect
Botox results timeline
- Starting to work
- Full effect
- Wearing off
The appointment takes about 15 minutes, and you can go straight back to work or the gym the next day. Expect a few small bumps that settle within 30 minutes, and occasionally a small bruise. Skip hard workouts, saunas and alcohol for 24 hours; our Botox aftercare guide has the details. We see you again at two weeks to check the result.
Side effects
Botox is one of the most studied cosmetic treatments. Common side effects are mild: small bumps, redness, a bruise or a headache in the first day or two. Less commonly, an eyelid or brow can droop temporarily, or the result can look uneven, which can usually be balanced at your follow-up. Botox is not suitable for people with certain neuromuscular conditions. Seek urgent care for trouble swallowing, speaking or breathing after treatment; this is very rare at cosmetic doses.

Frequently asked questions
Do men need more Botox than women?
Often, yes. Men usually have larger, stronger facial muscles. In a study of men with frown lines, 40 to 80 units worked consistently better than 20 units. Your exact dose depends on your muscles.
How many units of Botox does a man need?
It varies by area and muscle strength. Men are often at the higher end of the usual ranges: about 15 to 30 units or more for frown lines, 12 to 30 for the forehead and 16 to 30 for crow's feet.
Will Botox make a man look feminine?
Not with the right technique. Lifting the outer brow into an arch can look feminine on men, so a skilled injector keeps the male brow lower and flatter.
What is Brotox?
A nickname for Botox for men. It is the same treatment, adjusted for stronger muscles and a male brow shape.
What are the best Botox areas for men?
Frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet are most popular. Many men also treat jaw clenching with masseter Botox or excessive sweating with underarm Botox.
How much does Botox cost for men?
The price per unit is the same for everyone: $14 at Glow Theory. Men often need more units, so 30 units for frown lines is $420.
How long does Botox last for men?
Usually three to four months. Too few units for strong muscles is a common reason it wears off sooner.
