Botox treatments help our patients level up their skin’s radiance and prevent further signs of aging from appearing.

How many units of Botox do I need?
One of the most common questions that people ask is, How many units of Botox do I need? The answer depends on your needs and the area of your face that you want to treat. Allergan the company suggests that when treating the frown lines (between the brows [ aka. The # 11’s] the forehead, and the crow’s feet [ around the eyes’- that the average number of units suggested is 64 units. However, all people are unique and require a different amount.
You may hear us say Dosage equals duration. Meaning, the more number of Botox units used, the outcome commonly lasts longer.
As with any cosmetic treatment, you should consult with your provider at Glow Theory to determine the proper dosage. Since the neurotoxin is an active ingredient, the dosage calculated using units (the number of units in a vial). Units are important because they ensure that the right amount of neurotoxin used to treat the area.
Do’s and Don’ts After Botox
- Immediately after Botox, you should avoid laying flat for four hours thereafter. This will give the Botox the time it needs to settle. If you lie down right after your treatment, it could cause the Botox to migrate and alter the way it settles.
- Avoid exercise or any activities that might increase your heart rate for the next 24hrs. Avoiding heart rate elevation will aid in preventing the Botox to migrate.
- Immediately after Botox, you will have microscopic open channels in the skin. Avoid applying makeup for a few hours after Botox. The open channels in your skin may be susceptible to bacteria’s causing a minor infection or acne like breakouts.
- It is okay to wash the face on the same day as receiving Botox. But avoid scrubbing or massaging the area for 5-7 days after.
- Avoid- excessive alcohol consumption for the next 24hrs
- Do not have any beauty treatments on your face. This includes facials, facial massage, laser treatment for 1-2 weeks- this may cause the injected solution to spread to nearby muscles.
- Avoid any laser treatments 2 weeks prior and 2 week after Botox. Ask our professional staff members if you have questions related to the timing of any related treatments not mentioned.
Can you get Botox while pregnant?
The safety of Botox has not been studied in pregnant women in the USA, and therefore deemed safest for non-pregnant females. Botox may cross over to the baby via breast milk. Therefore, it is best to postpone Botox procedures until after the baby has weaned.
During pregnancy and lactation we still encourage women to come see us to formulate a future plan.
Oftentimes, we like to suggest using topical skincare products that enhance the smoothness in the skin and use pregnancy safe ingredients to target one’s concerns in the skin.
Can you get Botox while breastfeeding?
Can you get Botox while breastfeeding?
No, again, it is possible for Botox to migrate into breast milk, deeming it unsafe for babies. There are also no studies supporting any safe use of Botox for breastfeeding mothers.
How long after Botox can you lay down?
After your Botox injection, it recommended to wait four hours before you lie down. This will give the Botox the time it needs to settle. If you lie down right after your treatment, it could cause the Botox to migrate and alter the way it works. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t sleep, though.
The best way to sleep after your procedure is on your side. This will avoid any pressure or discomfort on the injection site. You should also avoid sleeping on your face, which may hinder the Botox’s effects. Also, don’t take a hot shower right before bed. Lastly, don’t rub your face aggressively. Some people choose to sleep on their backs, which won’t put any pressure on the injection sites.
It’s best to avoid heavy exercise for a day or two following your Botox treatment. Exercising right after your treatment will increase blood pressure and result in bruising. Also, don’t perform any exercises that require you to stand or walk for more than four hours. Exercising too soon can cause the Botox to migrate.
What areas commonly treated with Botox?
The common areas Botox works to soften the appearance of wrinkles, therefore providing cosmetic enhancements are the following areas, but not limited to: forehead wrinkles, and glabellar lines (better known as number Eleven lines or frown lines located between the eyebrows), crow’s feet- also known as the smile lines surrounding the circumference of the eyes.
Additionally, less commonly known areas that Botox may help soften wrinkles and lines in the skin are as follows, but not limited to: masseter muscles (associated with TMJ), chin pebbling, downturned corners of the mouth (DAO muscles), platysmal bands of the neck, aka Neferiti lift of the neck, and Mesotherapy of the skin – aka subtle and temporary smoothing of texture due to relaxation of the skin and underlying structures. The chest wrinkles can also treat for a smoother effect- we often like to pair this result with perhaps a laser or another treatment in-office for best optimal results.
Will my face look overdone or unnatural with Botox?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment. You can trust BOTOX® Cosmetic to deliver subtle results when you treated by someone who is license, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy. So, you’ll look like yourself—only with less noticeable lines.
Our office approach is to always keep you looking as natural as possible.
What will happen if I take a break from Botox?
Taking a break from Botox is of no harm. As Botox gradually metabolizes out of the muscles, your muscles will start to gain full animation and therefore your wrinkles will start to appear close to your baseline.
- Many pregnant and nursing mothers will take a break from Botox, as this prescription is contraindicated during this time.
When someone feels it is appropriate to resume treatments after a hiatus, it may take 2-3 applications of regular Botox (i.e., every 3-5 months treatment durations) to regain your baseline level of smoothness. It NOT guaranteed that you will ever regain your baseline level of smoothness in this time frame with Botox due to the natural aging process that occurs in all of us during this time off.

How Botox Treats Crow's Feet?
Fortunately, Botox is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive method for treating crow’s feet. It is a drug that temporarily relaxes the muscles around the eyes, and results in a smoother, younger-looking complexion.
Botox works by blocking the release of acetyloline, a neurotransmitter. This neurotransmitter helps to form fine lines, folds, and wrinkles. But as people age, the production of acetyloline diminishes. Botox prevents the formation of new wrinkles by relaxing the muscles around the eyes.
Depending on the severity of crow’s feet, you may be able to see results after just a few days. However, it can take a few weeks to a few months for the full effect of Botox to show. If your crow’s feet are relatively mild, you may be able to avoid Botox altogether.
Botox also used to treat other facial wrinkles, such as frown lines and laugh lines. When injected into the muscles around the eyes, Botox prevents these facial muscles from contracting during normal facial expressions.
The amount of Botox you need will depend on the size and depth of your wrinkles. Usually, a range of five to fifteen units recommended for crow’s feet treatment. However, you may need more units if you have more severe wrinkles.
Before receiving Botox, you should consult a doctor. You may need to limit your intake of aspirin or corticosteroids, both of which can interfere with the effectiveness of Botox. Also, you should avoid taking herbal supplements or certain medications.
