Glow theory has been amazing with helping me navigate the world of lasers. I was so lost but completed the consultation with Insiyah and loved it! She’s super informative and reviewed my daily routine with recommendations to improve. She completed a scan on my face to see damage and at what level. It was very enlightening and helped me be confident in my decision to proceed with laser and the right laser for my goals. I had my laser treatment with Lisa who was also a gem. She was very nice, comforting and explained everything. She made my treatment fun! Ashnah at the front desk has always been friendly, nice and goes above and beyond with her customer service. All of the staff I’ve engaged with has been top notch, kind and knowledgeable. I’d highly recommend and I’m excited to reach my goals with these gals in my corner. ❤️

Wonderful experience! The staff is great, didn’t upsell me on a million treatments, conservatively placed Botox & offered several discounts. My new favorite med spa!

Frequently Asked Questions

Insiyah Darugar MSN FNP, Glow Theory Founder, board-certifiedAnswered by Insiyah Darugar, MSN, FNP, founder and CEO

What are the types of rosacea?

Rosacea is usually described in four types: erythematotelangiectatic (flushing, persistent redness and visible blood vessels), papulopustular (redness with acne-like bumps), phymatous (thickened skin, most often on the nose) and ocular (red, dry, irritated eyes and eyelids). Many people have features of more than one type.

What causes rosacea?

The exact cause is not known. Genetics, an overactive immune response and sensitive blood vessels all play a part, and fair skin raises the risk. Flares are set off by triggers such as sun, heat, spicy food, alcohol, stress and some skincare products.

What does rosacea look like?

Flushing and persistent redness across the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead, often with small visible blood vessels. Some people also get acne-like bumps, and in severe cases the skin on the nose can thicken. Rosacea can also affect the eyes.

Is rosacea an autoimmune disease?

No. Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition linked to an overactive innate immune system, but it is not classed as an autoimmune disease.

Does rosacea itch or burn?

It can. Many people with rosacea feel burning or stinging, especially during a flare or after using certain products; some also feel itching. Treatment and avoiding triggers usually ease these symptoms.

What causes rosacea flare-ups?

Common triggers include sun exposure, heat, spicy food, alcohol, emotional stress and some skincare products. Keeping a diary for a few weeks can help you spot your own triggers. Keep your skin cool, use a gentle moisturizer and wear sunscreen daily.

Is rosacea contagious?

No. Rosacea cannot spread through touch or by sharing cosmetics.

Is rosacea genetic?

It tends to run in families, so genetics plays a role. It is also more common in people with fair skin and is often diagnosed between ages 30 and 50, though it can affect anyone.

Can rosacea be cured?

There is no cure, but rosacea can be well controlled. Prescription creams or medicines calm redness and bumps, and light therapy such as BBL® reduces visible blood vessels. Maintenance treatment and trigger avoidance help keep it calm.
