Unit ranges are typical starting points; your injector confirms your dose after looking at your muscles in motion. Our guide to how many units of Botox you need explains the ranges.
What a typical visit costs
One area
20 units$280
Members$238
Two areas
40 units$560
Members$476
Upper face
60 units$840
Members$714
“Upper face” usually means forehead, frown lines and crow’s feet together. These are examples; your total depends on the units you need.
What changes the price
- Muscle strength: stronger muscles, common in men and in people with very expressive faces, need more units.
- Number of areas: the more areas, the more units, though treating several at once is efficient.
- Your goal: a softened, natural look may need fewer units than a completely smooth one; “baby Botox” uses smaller doses spread more widely.
- How long you want it to last: very low doses wear off sooner, so they can cost more over a year.
- Who injects: experience and medical oversight matter more than a cheap per-unit price.
How often will I pay?
Botox usually lasts 3 to 4 months, so most people have it 3 to 4 times a year. Using the upper face example, that is roughly $840 per visit, or about 3 to 4 times that a year. Some people stretch visits to every 4 to 6 months once the muscles have weakened with regular treatment, and others treat only before events.
Ways to save on Botox
- Glow Getter VIP membership: $149 a year for 15% off Botox, Dysport and other treatments, plus 5 free Botox units a year. On a single 60-unit upper face visit, members save $126 plus the free units. See the membership program.
- Manufacturer rewards: Allergan’s Allē program gives points on Botox that can be used toward future treatments.
- Specials: check our current specials.
- Do not chase the cheapest unit: diluted product, too few units or poor placement can mean results that fade fast or need correcting, which costs more in the end.
Does insurance cover Botox?
Not for cosmetic use. Insurance may cover Botox for medical conditions such as chronic migraine, excessive underarm sweating, eyelid or neck spasms and some bladder conditions, usually after other treatments have been tried and with prior authorization from your insurer. Cosmetic Botox for lines and wrinkles is paid out of pocket, though you can often use financing.
