If you only read one thing
Brazilian laser hair removal treats the full pubic area, labia and between the buttocks, while a bikini line treatment removes only hair outside a swimsuit. Pubic hair is usually coarse and dark, so it responds well. Most people need 6 to 8 sessions, 6 to 8 weeks apart, each taking a few minutes with no downtime. Shave 12 to 24 hours before, and do not wax or pluck. At Glow Theory a Brazilian is $210 per session.

Brazilian laser hair removal treats all or most of the hair in the pubic area, including the front, the labia and between the buttocks, while a bikini line treatment only removes the hair that shows outside a swimsuit. Pubic hair is usually coarse and dark, so it responds very well to laser. Most people need 6 to 8 sessions spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart, each taking only a few minutes, with no downtime. It is more sensitive than other areas, but quick, and it ends razor burn and ingrown hairs for most people.
This guide explains the difference between bikini and Brazilian, how to prepare, what a session feels like, results, aftercare and cost.
Bikini line vs Brazilian
Bikini line
Medium area
- TreatsHair outside the edges of a swimsuit, at the sides and top
- LeavesThe rest of the pubic hair
- Price$140 per session
Brazilian
Large area
- TreatsThe full pubic area, labia and between the buttocks
- LeavesNothing, or a small strip or shape if you choose
- Price$210 per session
You can choose how much to remove. Many people leave a small strip or triangle, and you can change your mind about the shape during your course.
How to prepare
- Shave the area 12 to 24 hours before your session. The laser needs the hair root in the skin, not the hair above it.
- Do not wax, pluck or use an epilator for about 4 weeks before and during your course.
- Avoid sun, tanning beds and self-tanner on the area.
- Skip lotions, deodorant or powders on the area that day.
- Tell us if you are pregnant, take any medicine that makes skin sun-sensitive, or get cold sores in the area.
What it feels like
The bikini area is one of the more sensitive places to treat, because the hair is dense and coarse. Most people describe a quick snap like a rubber band, with brief warmth. Our Fusion lasers by InMode use a cooled sapphire tip to protect and cool the skin, and a Brazilian usually takes just a few minutes. Sessions get more comfortable as the hair thins. If you are worried about comfort, ask us about a cold compress. Our guide to whether laser hair removal hurts covers each area.
Results and how many sessions
- Treated hairs shed over the next few weeks.
- Coarse, dark pubic hair usually responds faster than finer body hair.
- Most people need 6 to 8 sessions, every 6 to 8 weeks, because the laser only treats hairs in their growing phase.
- Hormonal changes can bring back some hair over time; occasional touch-ups keep the area smooth.

Aftercare
- Mild redness and bumps around the follicles are normal for a few hours to a day or two.
- Wear loose, breathable underwear and clothing for the rest of the day.
- Skip hot tubs, saunas, intense workouts and sex for about 24 hours if the area feels sensitive.
- Do not wax or pluck between sessions; shaving is fine.
- Protect the area from the sun if it will be exposed.
Benefits beyond smooth skin
- Fewer ingrown hairs and razor bumps, which are common in the bikini area.
- No more regular waxing appointments or shaving irritation.
- Fewer dark marks from repeated ingrown hairs and shaving.
Safety
Laser hair removal in the bikini area is safe when done by trained providers using a laser suited to your skin. We use Fusion Light for lighter skin and Fusion Dark for coarse hair on darker skin tones. Lasers do not work well on gray, white, blonde or red hair. Laser hair removal is usually postponed during pregnancy.
