If you only read one thing
Morpheus8 is a radiofrequency microneedling treatment: fine needles deliver heat below the skin's surface to trigger new collagen and elastin. It tightens loose skin and improves wrinkles, texture, acne scars and stretch marks on the face, neck and body. Most people need 3 to 4 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart, with a few days of sunburn-like redness after each. Results build over several months.

Morpheus8 is a radiofrequency (RF) microneedling treatment. It combines very fine needles with heat to remodel the skin from the inside, tightening loose skin and improving lines, texture and acne scars. It works on the face, neck and body, suits all skin tones with the right settings, and has a few days of redness rather than weeks of recovery.
This guide explains how Morpheus8 works, what it treats, what a session feels like, how many sessions you need, downtime and side effects, how long results last, and what it costs at our Carlsbad studio.
How Morpheus8 works
Ordinary microneedling creates tiny channels in the skin to trigger healing. Morpheus8 adds radiofrequency energy delivered through the tips of the needles, so heat is released below the surface, in the dermis and the fat just beneath it. The depth is adjustable, so your provider can treat thin skin around the eyes gently and go deeper on the jawline, neck or body.
That controlled heat and micro-injury prompt your skin to repair itself, producing new collagen and elastin over the following months. Because much of the energy is delivered beneath the surface, the outer skin heals quickly, which is why downtime is short and why RF microneedling is considered suitable for darker skin tones when settings are chosen carefully.
What Morpheus8 treats
- Loose or sagging skinFirms the lower face, jawline and neck, and lax skin on the body.
- Fine lines and wrinklesIncluding around the eyes with a gentler eye protocol.
- Acne scarsStudies of RF microneedling report improvement in depressed acne scars over three to four sessions; see depressed acne scars.
- Texture and poresSmoother skin and smaller-looking pores.
- Stretch marksRF microneedling is one of the main treatments for stretch marks, which improve gradually.
- Crepey skinOn the neck, chest, arms, abdomen and knees.
What a session is like
We apply numbing cream before treatment, because RF microneedling is uncomfortable without it. You will feel heat and a prickling or snapping sensation as the handpiece moves across the skin. A session takes about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area. Your skin will look red and feel warm, like a sunburn, straight afterwards.
Downtime and aftercare
- Day 1 to 3: redness, swelling and warmth, like a sunburn; a faint grid of tiny dots may be visible
- Day 3 to 7: redness fades; skin may feel dry or rough as it renews
- Aftercare: gentle cleanser and moisturizer, no makeup for the first day, no retinoids, acids or exfoliants for about a week, and strict sunscreen
- Avoid: hot tubs, saunas and hard workouts for 24 to 48 hours, and sun exposure while the skin heals
How many sessions, and when will I see results?
A typical Morpheus8 course
- Course
- Results building
- Maintenance
Most people start with three to four sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart. You may notice a glow and some tightening within a few weeks, but collagen takes time: the fuller result builds over several months after your last session. A maintenance session every 6 to 12 months helps keep the results going, because skin continues to age.
Side effects and who should wait
Morpheus8 is FDA-cleared and well tolerated, but it is a medical procedure. Expected effects are redness, swelling, warmth and tiny dots on the skin for a few days. Less common: bruising, small scabs, a breakout, or temporary darker patches (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), which are more likely in darker skin and usually fade. Burns, blisters, infection or scarring are rare and are mainly linked to incorrect settings.
Treatment is not suitable during pregnancy, with an active skin infection or cold sore in the area, with a pacemaker or metal implants in the treatment zone, or within six months of isotretinoin. Tell us if you get cold sores, scar easily or form keloids.
Morpheus8 vs other skin tightening treatments
Morpheus8 is the most versatile of our tightening options because it improves texture and scars as well as laxity. If you want a single session with almost no downtime, Sofwave may suit you better. Our guide Morpheus8 vs Ultherapy vs Sofwave compares them side by side.
